Kuwait Civil ID Status Check & Renewal Guide
Learn how to check your Civil ID card status online, process renewals, pay fees, sign up for home delivery, and activate your Mobile Civil ID on your smartphone.
1. How to Check Your Civil ID Status Online
The Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI) is the official government entity responsible for issuing and maintaining Civil IDs for all citizens and expats in the State of Kuwait. Checking your card status is essential to confirm if your residency has been successfully printed or if there are outstanding errors.
Follow these steps to check your status:
- Visit the official PACI portal: e.gov.kw or paci.gov.kw.
- Navigate to the 'Civil ID Status Check' or 'Card Status' service.
- Enter your 12-digit Civil ID number in the input field.
- Click the 'Submit' or 'Query' button.
- The system will display the current status, such as: 'Card is under processing', 'Card is printed and ready for collection', or 'Residency details mismatch'.
2. Online Renewal Procedure & Fees
Expatriates must renew their Civil ID card whenever their residency (Iqama) is renewed or if they change their residency details (such as address, passport number, or sponsor details). The renewal must be completed online within the statutory timeline to prevent fines.
The online renewal process consists of:
- Go to the PACI Online Renewal portal.
- Enter your Civil ID number and follow the prompts.
- Upload a new personal photo if required (photo specifications: 4x6 cm, blue background, no glasses, face forward).
- Pay Renewal Fees: The standard renewal fee for an expat Civil ID is 5 KWD. If you are updating address details, the fee is 10 KWD. Payments must be processed through Knet via the secure PACI payment link.
3. Civil ID Home Delivery Service
To avoid long waiting queues at the PACI headquarters in South Surra or the Jahra branch, PACI offers an official home delivery service for printed Civil IDs. This service delivers your physical card directly to your residential or office address.
How to request home delivery:
- Once status check confirms the card is printed, visit the PACI Delivery website: delivery.paci.gov.kw.
- Enter your Civil ID number and the serial number found on the envelope or your old card.
- Provide your detailed delivery address and contact phone number.
- Pay the delivery fee of 2 KWD online via Knet.
- A courier will deliver the card within 2 to 5 business days. You must hand over your old Civil ID card to the courier upon receiving the new one.
4. Kuwait Mobile ID Application
Under Ministerial Decree No. 1/2020, the digital Civil ID issued through the 'Kuwait Mobile ID' smartphone app is legally equivalent to the physical card. It is widely accepted by all government entities, ministries, banks, and private businesses in Kuwait.
Expatriates are highly recommended to download and register on the 'Kuwait Mobile ID' app, as it updates instantly when residency renewals are completed, allowing you to prove your residency status even if the physical card printing is delayed.
